A small genus of flowering small to medium sized spreading trees that originate in the North Americas. This species is a legume and produces attractive seed pods. However it has out standing spring blossom which are born on mature branch wood. Cercis genus also have attractive heart shaped foliage. Ideal as specimen tree in a reasonably sheltered spot.
