Acer shirasawanum cultivation notes: This Acer will flourish in any fertile well drained soil. Plant in full sun / partial shade - avoiding very cold exposed areas. During winter trim shoots / branches that obscure trunk to reveal attractive bark, as well as all diseased dying and dead wood.

Plant Strengths: Attractive autumn colour; Architectural plant – ideal as a ‘stand out’ plant; Attractive form or foliage for all year interest; Tolerates heavy clay soils.

Plant Weaknesses: Will not tolerate exposed, cold or hot and sunny locations; Does not produce showy attractive flowers; Does not tolerate very dry or very wet soils.
