Aeonium description: Aeonium makes a great impact plant with its lush purple black foliage and compact low habit. Grow as a specimen or plant several together as a drift. Makes a great specimen in a pot for positioning on the patio among summer flowering plants.

Aeonium cultivation notes: This low growing succulent sub-shrub originates from the Canary Islands so is a touch tender for the UK. Plant in any reasonably fertile gritty well drained soil in a warm sheltered planting location if you want this plant to get even a sniff at surviving a British winter. Position in full sun for best foliage colour and consider planting in pot so you can over winter under glass.

Plant Strengths: Evergreen foliage for all year round colour and screening; Suitable for container growing; Architectural plant – ideal as a ‘stand out’ plant; Suitable for exposed coastal planting; Attractive form or foliage for all year interest.

Plant Weaknesses: Will not tolerate exposed, cold or hot and sunny locations.

Design & Plant Use for Aeonium:
  • Summer flowering herbaceous plant suitable for border planting

Common Missspellings: Aoneum, Aonium, Aeoneum
