Dicentra spectabilis cultivation notes: This taller growing Dicentra is a woodland herbaceous perennial that prefers being located in a sheltered spot in dappled shade. Plant in a moist humus rich garden soil that is neutral or alkaline. Cut back dead foliage and flower stems in the autumn and propagate tired clumps by division and mulch regularly with leaf mould. Beware of seedlings which may not come true to colour - avoid by swiftly dead heading.

Plant Strengths: Architectural plant – ideal as a ‘stand out’ plant; Tolerates permanently wet soil; Suitable for planting in full shade.

Plant Weaknesses: Invasive/spreading root growth; Will not tolerate exposed, cold or hot and sunny locations.
