Lathyrus vernus description: This low growing perennial sweet pea is a classic cottage garden plant, where it grown among other . It grows fast and flowers swiftly right through the summer, producing masses of scented burgundy blossom that is best enjoyed from supported trellis or cane structures.

Lathyrus vernus cultivation notes: This relatively compact perennial sweet pea will grow on most decent water retentive soils, ideally in a sheltered spot in full sun or part shade. This sweet pea is grown as herbaceous plant so is cut back annually and mulch during the winter months.

Plant Strengths: Scented blossom; Suitable for container growing.

Plant Weaknesses: Does not tolerate very dry or very wet soils.
