Leycesteria formosa description: This Golden leycesteria not only has attractive golden foliage but produces masses of racemes of purple blossom in mid summer, followed by attractive ruby purple berries.

Leycesteria formosa cultivation notes: This fast growing shrub will flourish on most soil types, even really troublesome soils like chalk and clay. This golden form will require full sun to be be at its best but it will tolerate part sun. Prune out excessive thick or weak stems in late winter and mulch every 3 years to improve soil fertility.

Plant Strengths: All round tough plant suitable for problem areas; Ideal for fast growing screening; Fruit / berry producing; Tolerates heavy clay soils.

Plant Weaknesses: Poisonous if eaten/irritating sap; Invasive top growth.
