Betula utilis cultivation notes: Birch will grow on a variety of soils from dry sandy soils to heavy clays. Birch is especially tolerant of free draining sandy soils, and is fully hardy - flourishing in all conditions. Birch will not tolerate is heavy shade being a woodland edge tree.

Plant Strengths: Ornamental winter bark / tracery; All round tough plant suitable for problem areas; Ideal for fast growing screening; Provides valuable winter interest; Attractive form or foliage for all year interest; Tolerates full sun and sandy, drought-prone soils.
