Quercus ilex (Holm Oak)
Quercus ilex description: This large tree will slowly but surely become a bruiser so don’t plant it in a small garden, unless you prepared to cut it back regularly. The small silver grey leaves are similar to olive like, yet the tree itself is oak-like in stature and form.
Quercus ilex cultivation notes: Good on all well drained soils, the Holme oak flourishes in exposed coastal locations where it is often grown for shelter. The eventual size of the tree makes it suitable for the largest of gardens as a specimen or evergreen boundary plant. can be pruned and grown as a hedge.
