Acid tolerant herbaceous flowering plants for herbaceous planting & mixed borders

Here listing of acid tolerant herbaceous flowering plants that will die back each winter, well I say die back, but Stachys will actually maintain some foliage, and Gentian will produce blossom well into late autumn, but the other will all resoundingly die back. As with all other herbaceous plants you will need to put some time into improving the soil by digging in plenty of well rotted compost before planting, as well as mulching around plants with compost to improve soil fertility as well as lock in soil moisture and keep back weed growth. Mulching is especially useful on acid soils as they tend to be nutrient poor and free draining, so be prepared to mulch beds every few years to give your herbaceous plants a boost, this will invariably lead to a happier plant and better blossom. You will also need to stake some of the taller herbaceous plant to stop them from falling over, but all of this will be identified on individual plant pages.

Many of these herbaceous flowering plants will also require lifting and dividing to encourage rejuvenated growth and flowering and most will suite mixed planting with grasses and ground cover plants.
