Agapanthus is small Genus of herbaceous lily like flowering plants with seven recognised species. Commonly known as Lily of the Nile, or African lily in the UK, Agapanthus is native to South Africa but will tolerate planting in milder coastal and urban areas in the UK. Agapanthus is largely grown for its impressive flowers which are repeated throughout the summer and borne on spikes held above impressive sword like foliage. There are many hybrids and cultivars with blue through white flowers that are cultivated throughout warm areas of the world.
