Ajuga is a genus of hardy low growing shade loving plants that are much appreciated as low ground cover in a shady / woodland environment.
Ajuga has a variety of attractive foliage colours - including deep purples and tricolor forms - but generally Ajuga grows as an attractive ground hugging plant that naturally forms into a drift, being well suited to planting under the canopy of trees or shrubs. Swathes of attractive short spikes of blue - mauve flowers appear in late spring. Most cultivated plants are perennials, although there are annual Ajuga.
