Astilbe is a flowering herbaceous perennial that flourishes in a moist shady spot. Astilbe is best planted in naturalistic masses where its rhizome forming roots will merge to create swathes of mounded and attractive cut folage. Astilbe produces masses of frothy on upright flower spikes in a variety of colours, from soft creams to vivid cerise pinks. This perennial is well suited to moist woodland and pond side planting preferring a sheltered location in dappled shade with moist and fertile soil.
