Epimedium Plants
4 plants found in genus "Epimedium"
Epimedium is a large genus of low growing woodland perennials that really deserve exploring. This woodland genus consists of 54 species with hundreds of cultivars, but if you have a shade / woodland area then a clump of low growing swathe forming Epimedium should be present. The issue is, which one?
Epimediums grow from rhizomes below the soil and foliage and spring blossom sprout from this root mat, so Epimedium is a spreader that never gets very tall. Attractive pendulous and insect like flowers appear in sprays throughout spring and early summer. Most Epimedium have attractive foliage and a distinctive spreading form which provide extended seasonal interest, some also have very attractive tinted winter foliage. Epimediums are hardy yet require a good humus rich soil that is moist throughout the year. Most also require a sheltered shady planting location.
