This low growing compact evergreen shrub will grow to around 1 - 1.5 metres in heightand spread. Attractive regular evergreen glossy dark green tear shaped leaves borne on distinctive red tinged stems interest provide all year foliage interest. Scented pinky / white flowers provide interest from December to March, followed by black berries in winter.
Sarcococca hookeriana - Cultivation Notes
Sarcocca is a hardy shrub that flourishes on free draining fertile soils (including chalk and clay), but prefers a moisture retentive yet free draining soil with plenty of humus. This evergreen is suitable for planting under shade - making it ideal for woodland planting and useful for problem shady areas where it will slowly knit together and form a dense ground cover. Water occasionally if very dry - mulch on poor soils. No need to prune but trim to shape. Height and spread up to 1 metre
