Herbaceous flowers and herbs with attractive scented foliage

The majority of these scented herbs and herbaceous flowers will be associated with herb gardens where they are be planted for medicinal or culinary use as much as for aesthetic value. However all of these plants can be slipped in amongst ornamental plantings where not only will they please the eye with attractive foliage and blossom, but provide additional prolonged nasal impact. Scented foliage plants are especially well suited for use in sensory gardens where they will be much appreciated by the visually impaired garden visitor.

Such plants will be happy toughing it out in a hot sunny spot, prefering a drier soil in full sun. Such conditions will tend to enhance the impact of the scent produced. Only Bay will tolerate a degree of shade, ahivng the added advantage of being trimmable shrub that can be shaped and sculpted.
