A range of trees and shrubs will put up with bright dry conditions and dry, droughty soils. There are some common features and types of plants that will often flourish in such conditions; many conifers will tend to tolerate such conditions, as will other evergreens that have tough silvery foliage.

If you are planting in an exposed position it is always sensible to stake and tie trees securely and always dig in plenty of compost and fertilizer into the planting pit to give the young plant a good start.
